A Happy Baby is a Healthy Baby

A Happy Baby is a Healthy Baby
Did you know, “in the United States, the percentage of babies born before 37 weeks, is 9.8 percent. This means 1 in 10 babies is born too soon”*. Most of these families are told their babies will live with life-long impacts ranging from trouble breathing, learning, and much worse - that is, if they even survive being born so early! I am the 1 in 10 and I am on a mission to do the impossible.
Born at 21 weeks, I have a deep connection with Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee and my platform Katie’s Little Angels. My passion is to provide resources and support services for NICU families to have happy healthy babies. Through my platform, I have been able to create a nationwide sisterhood of young women who share my passion for giving back to the families who are helping their babies in the fight for their life. Together, we collect, support, and encourage families across the United States.
Pageantry and community service led me to launch my couture clothing line at Cosmopolitan New York Fashion Week in February 2021. Charjean Couture’s first collection is the Angel Collection which is in honor of NICU babies and their families.
I began designing clothing two years ago when I found it nearly impossible to find clothing that fits my figure. Another possible life-long impact of prematurity is being petite or smaller than others that are the same age as me. I am petite for my age. My struggle led me to design my own clothing for pageants and for other girls and women who face similar challenges. A portion of all Charjean Couture’s sales go into Katie’s Little Angels and continuing to grow the impact this platform can have on my community and beyond.
Community service is a vital part of my everyday life and has given me the opportunity to impact the lives of thousands of NICU babies, children, and families throughout the United States. With over nine hundred hours of community volunteer service hours and collecting over 15,000 items to support premature infants I’m on a mission to do the impossible. Proving a preemie, born at 21 weeks, can be living proof that with a little determination and a whole lot of heart, that anyone can achieve the impossible.
